We are very happy to announce that GPLRank can handle SCX mod laptimes now. A 67SC rank has been added too. Its benchmarks are based on the fastest laps registered during that year.

This update includes other changes and improvements:

- Few bugfixes (a more detailed listing is yet to be published)

- New tracks:
  • B&Wwerk Collmberg-Rennen Saxonia in B&W (blckwerk)
  • Suzuka 2000 (suzu00)
- New functionality:
  • To enhance the data visualization
    • A new section under GPLrank (menu) > View Rank Definitions shows the differences between comparable ranks (e.g., GPL65Rank vs GPL65v2Rank)
    • The original View Rank Definitions content got the following improvements:
      • Tracks are sorted alphabetically now
      • New columns display the average speed (kph & mph) and background behind each benchmark (information to be added gradually)
      • New row displays the total benchmark for each rank
      • TotalRanks are also shown now, including a list of excluded tracks (if any)
    • A new setting under Accounts (menu) > Visualization Settings allows to alter how the ranks are sorted & therefore listed in a few different pages
  • To exclude tracks from a particular TotalRank (e.g., Thunder Cars)
    • The 1972 (TC) TotalRank no longer includes tracks requiring the long track patch & therefore incompatible with the mod
- Menu changes:
  • The View Tracks and View Chassis menu options have been moved under View Rank Definitions
  • The Toggle Old-fashion Titles menu option has been renamed to Visualization Settings
Enjoy!

We are very happy to announce that GPLRank can handle 1968 mod laptimes now. A 68 rank has been added too. Its benchmarks are based on the fastest laps registered during that year (except for the Nürburgring, where the lap record set on 1967 was not improved due to hazy & wet conditions).

This update includes other changes and improvements:

- Few bugfixes (a more detailed listing will be published soon)

- New functionality to improve the data integrity of the database: Report lap, Reported Times & Rejected Times

- Menu changes, including a new option to show (or hide) the old-fashioned graphics that used to appear as page titles

- A link to the GPLRank subforum in the GPL Alternative Forum. Unforgivable not to have had it until now (thanks Stefan Roess).

Enjoy GPLRank!

  • After being alive for more than 20 years, the database can only benefit from some review & validation processes. These will help us to clean client / server errors, program malfunctions and even human errors. That is, laptimes that are silly or simply wrong
  • The aforementioned review process can be triggered by one of the following reasons (still work in progress):
    • 1 - Negative laptimes
    • 2 - Inconsistent laptimes (the time per lap is stored in two fields that must be equivalent)
    • 3 - Laptimes longer than 120 min
    • 4 - Laptimes greater than 5 times a benchmark
    • 5 - Laps reported by users
    • 6 - Laps rejected by an admin
  • An admin process looks for reasons #1 to #4
  • Report a lap (reason #5) is a new functionality that allows users to report suspicious times listed through Multiple Choice Hell (to be used sensibly!)
    • Only offered for the fastest lap shown when the track is not eligible for World Records
  • An admin will review the reported laps to reject or validate them
  • As a result, a history of reported / rejected laps is created so that users can consult it and, if necessary, ask for a revision
    • One's rejected laps (if any) are shown under Accounts (menu) > Rejected Times
    • One's reported laps (if any) are shown under Accounts (menu) > Reported Times
- Menu changes:
  • A new option shows (or hides) the old-fashioned graphics that used to appear as page titles
    • Not all pages had it though (or we could not recover all of them)
    • This is our token of appreciation to the previous developers of this great site
    • The new menu option works as a switch and it sits under Accounts (menu) > Toggle Old-fashion Titles
  • The Generate .ini File menu option has been moved under Accounts

GPLRank is back!2023-08-31 23:42:13

Thanks to all of you who have made GPLRank possible for so many years.

Apologies for depriving you of one of your favourite GPL sites for the last 6 months.

Back in January we suffered a major IT misfortune. Its biggest consequence is that our database dates from April 2020.

We hope that you, the users, will be the ones to bring the database back to 2023 by simply uploading your laptimes once again :)

So far only the core functionality is available. It has been fully reviewed and revamped these last months besides heavily tested. Definitely ready for action!

Other sections like League Central, Big Brother (BB) and Other Ranks (e.g., NRank) are planned for a later stage in our roadmap.

There should be no major issues with the new site and server. If any, trust that we will do our best to solve them. Therefore it would be much appreciated if you could report any defect or anomaly to us at gplrank@gplrank.schuerkamp.de, no matter how big or small.

Last but not least, we would like to dedicate the effort behind resurrecting this site to those of you who appreciate GPLRank for being a beautiful way to compete against all (= past, present & future) GPL drivers as well as all (= past, present & future) versions of ourselves.

Having said that, we would also like to offer a special thanks (in no particular order) to: Uwe Schürkamp, Keith Ballard (aka Saiph), Paul (aka PTRACER), Robert Fleurke, Urban G. Alsenmyr, Brian Wong, Jani Posta, Richard "ZZ" Busch & Dave Stanley (former host through NRTservers.com).

Welcome back!
GPL Rank for 1955 is live2017-05-19 14:22:09
Author: Ed Hut
Maybe it's the mod that was the longest in the making of them all, but finally it has arrived and as of today honored with a rank in GPLRank: GPL55 Rank !!!

Thanks to Urban again for providing the info and keeling me informed of this new development.
CanAm 1966 laptimes now accepted2016-04-11 16:09:10
Author: Ed Hut
It's been a long time since I posted an update, but after a long wait the CanAm 1966 mod has arrived! The mod has been defined in GPLRank and uploading lap times should now work.

A rank for this mod will be defined within a couple of days.
71 CanAmRank is now live2012-10-03 15:39:54
Author: Ed Hut
GPLRank now list a 71CanAmRank with a number of tracks. Donnybrooke is still missing and will be added if and when it comes available. Watkins Glen is the 1967 version (GPL original) and not the 71 version, because that version is not correct in layout and also not very good to actually drive on. The benchmarks are the pole times as driven in 1971.

Thanks to Urban for providing the info and congrats to Sven Vangent for being the first driver to achieve a ranking.
New ranks for F2 and 69X2012-03-20 16:53:41
Author: Ed Hut
After a bit of a wait, a rather too long one might say, I have added to new ranks to GPLRank.

For 69X, the rank is the same as the original 69Rank.

For F2, the poletimes of the 1967 F2 races are used. Unfortunately, the Nurburgring Sudschleife is not available yet for GPL, so I left that one out. This may be a pity, but on the other hand, achieving a F2Rank is a bit easier as well. Congrats to Sven Vangent for being the first driver to achieve a negative handicap for the F2 rank.
Support for GPLF2 and GPL69X (and Oval rank!)2012-01-23 16:40:09
Author: Ed Hut
After a long, long wait, GPLRank finally supports two important mods of 2011.

The two new supported mods are GPL67 F2 and GPL69 eXtra.

And upon special request, I recently added a new rank specifically for ovals.
New feature for Track Promotion2011-11-14 16:07:46
Author: Ed Hut
The new track promotion feature is very much under development still, but one feature that was on my list as of day one when I decided to develop a new track promotion was a graphical representation of the results. A first version of this is now up and running. You cannot page forward and backwards, and the performance of drawing the chart is too low at the moment, but I'm working on improving that.

Update June 25: Now there's also a chart for the laptimes, so you can see improvements in laptimes as well, plus of course get an instant view on how much you much progress to pass the driver ahead of you.

Update November 14: Recently I discovered that the Track Promo page did work correctly with Internet Explorer (this is not a browser that I use regularly, so the discovery of the bugs was quite late). I have fixed it today, so that the toggling between the 'position' and 'laptime' view of the chart now works, plus the paging from drivers 1..10, 11..20, etc works as designed. Sill to do is the fixing of style sheets, because some parts of the page are rather ugly at the moment.
